Sustainability and Equality

Dacre, Son & Hartley’s commitment to sustainability and tackling social inequality

Climate change and social inequality represent two of the greatest challenges of our time.

At Dacre, Son & Hartley we wish to take a meaningful part to protect both the planet and our environment for future generations, and we’re now on a journey to reduce our carbon footprint as much as possible. Having recently partnered with Make it Wild following a carbon audit, we’re proud to be offsetting more than 100 tons of carbon dioxide emissions by planting native trees in Nidderdale, North Yorkshire (Autumn 2022).

In addition, we always give back to the local communities across the towns and villages that we operate within, through a range of partnerships, sponsorships and donations.

Sustainability

We have made ourselves accountable and are continually exploring how we can be proactive in delivering sustainable business growth whilst reducing impact on the planet. Sustainability is now a driving force throughout our business and considered in the actions that we take, including choosing paperless marketing materials over traditional print where possible.

Renewable energy

We’ve taken steps to ensure that all the electricity that we use across our entire office estate is certified as 100% renewable from wind, solar and hydro sources throughout the UK. Please see our certificate here.

Waste management

In addition to reducing the waste that we create, we wish to ensure that as much of our waste as possible gets recycled.

Initially we began by recycling paper and plastic in our head office and are considering options to roll this out across our entire branch network and we’re working hard to continue improving, by exploring new and innovative recycling streams, as well as further reducing the waste we generate.

Embracing electric and hybrid vehicles

Although we only operate a relatively small fleet of cars, they're all hybrid vehicles with one being fully electric.

Supporting grass roots sport and local communities

We typically support more than 50 local sports clubs, community events, organisations and charities throughout North and West Yorkshire each year.

The financial support we provide to local organisations averages nearly £1,500 every month and benefits hundreds of people in the local areas surrounding our office network.

This money goes towards a huge range of initiatives, from sponsoring children’s football and rugby kits to providing support to local schools and community groups, including the Principle Trust Children's Charity which has been providing respite holidays to thousands of children since 2011 and a £5,000 donation to Saint Michael's Hospice who provide care and support to families living with terminal illness and bereavement across the Harrogate district.

Helping the homeless

We actively supporting Homeless Hampers, a charity who provide essentials and advice to support the homeless and those in poverty or on the streets of Yorkshire. We have a calendar of events planned through 2024 to raise money to support weekly outreach programmes which provide meals, hot drinks, toiletries, clothing, blankets and sleeping bags.

Working in property, means that we help thousands of people find their ideal home every year and we see the joy and comfort a home brings. Unfortunately, for many different reasons, some people are unable to find a permanent home, which is when charities like Homeless Hampers step in and do such invaluable work. It’s a genuine privilege to support this fantastic charity.
