Baildon Area Guide

Baildon is a small thriving town close to Bradford and Leeds, it enjoys an elevated position above Shipley, Saltaire and Esholt and is adjacent to beautiful open moorland. The town is close to the World Heritage Site of Saltaire village that can be reached by the wonderful historic Shipley glen tramway - the oldest* working cable tramway in Great Britain (*cliff lifts excepted).

Both Baildon Moor and Shipley Glen are close by and offer beautiful countryside with great walks - whether you are just out with the dog or an experienced rambler.

The cities of Leeds and Bradford are within easy reach by both road and excellent local rail links with regular trains running to both cities and out to the Dales. Leeds Bradford International Airport is only a short journey away.

Families in Baildon and the surrounding area have access to a range of good local primary schools. At secondary level, there is a choice of schools, both in the state and independent sectors, to meet a wide range of educational requirements.

Whilst in 2013 the Parish Council voted to designate Baildon as a town, what’s good about Baildon to me is that it still has much of a village feel about it, having a strong sense of community involving local traders and villagers.

Baildon Farmers' Market

Baildon Farmers' Market takes place on the fourth Saturday of each month from 9am until 1pm. You can buy fresh, locally produce food from fantastic Yorkshire suppliers, including award-winning pies and homemade jams and chutneys. There’s also live music and childrens' entertainement - with a different bingo trail every month with guaranteed prizes.

Baildon Belles Womens Institute

Formed in 2009 by a small group of friends, this thriving Women's Institute group has grown to more than a hundred members with an age range of 18-60! The group meets in Baildon's St John's Church Hall on the last Thursday of every month to trade skills, network, form friendships and most importantly have fun.
 

Baildon Golf Club

Baildon Golf Club’s unique lay out and rolling panoramic views from well-manicured greens are second to none and the superb 18 hole course is cut out of the sourrounding moorland. The heritage of the course has been retained and it is mostly unchanged since it was laid out. It is complemented by the contemporary clubhouse - perfect for meeting and socialising.
