Knaresborough Area Guide

Knaresborough is defined by the dramatic riverside cliffs of the Nidd Gorge. Knaresborough town centre offers a range of unique properties some having magnificent views over the river and the Gorge.

The town is surrounded by beautiful countryside and highly sought after villages and is also conveniently located for access to the A1 for easy commutes to Leeds, York and further afield. Harrogate is just a short drive (less than 15 minutes) along the A59 or alternatively a four mile cycle ride along quiet roads and the traffic-free Beryl Burton cycleway. From Knaresborough station there are regular direct trains to Harrogate, Leeds, York and stations in between.

Families in Knaresborough and surrounding villages are well served by a number of excellent local primary schools and, at secondary level, the highly regarded King James's School. Independent school choices for Knaresborough families include Harrogate Ladies' College and Ashville College in Harrogate.

Knaresborough is a lovely place to live: close enough to towns, cities, and all the amenities they offer, yet quiet and with its own individual character and sense of community.

Riverside Café

The Riverside is a favourite for coffee, ice creams, light meals or something more substantial. It is in a beautiful setting and is dog friendly, indeed the owners' dog, Leeroy, is a star attraction!

Wednesday Market Day

On Wednesdays, Knaresborough's town centre, is the place to be for canny shoppers as the weekly market springs into life from 8.30am to 4pm. It offers a wide variety of produce including excellent fruit and vegetable stalls, fine cheeses, sweets, health foods and baked goods, as well as plants and cut flowers.

Nidd Gorge

A popular spot with Knaresborough residents is Nidd Gorge. Roughly 1.5 miles to the west of the town, it comprises an ancient woodland which is great for wildlife spotting; through the trees you may catch a glimpse of roe deer, tawny owls, herons and woodpeckers. Managed by the Woodland Trust, the site has various footpaths and children will love its adventure trail for burning off some energy.
