The recent history of the Middleton area of Ilkley dates back to the release of lands by Squire Myddleton – the local land owner – at the turn of the 20th century. Middleton plays host to many of Ilkley’s sports clubs including the cricket grounds, the town’s famous Lido and rugby football club, whilst a short walk over the old river bridge leads to both the tennis and squash club as well as a couple of pubs/restaurants.
