Wetherby

Office Manager Georgie Williams on what the thriving West Yorkshire town has to offer

Wetherby is a popular market town on the banks of the River Wharfe and within the 'golden triangle' of Leeds, Harrogate and York.

The town offers a good range of shops including numerous independent boutiques, an attractive shopping centre, high street chains, supermarkets, a weekly market and a monthly farmers' market. There is also a superb selection of pubs, cafes and restaurants. This vibrant retail and leisure offering easily satisfies the requirements of most people but if you want more the cities of Leeds and York are just 12 miles away, whilst Harrogate is eight miles distant.

Residents of Wetherby benefit from its extremely convenient location; a short drive out of town quickly connects to the A1(M). There are also regular direct bus services to Wakefield, York, Leeds, Knaresborough, Harrogate, Otley and Tadcaster. The railway station at Kirk Hammerton (about 20 minutes drive) offers a regular service to Leeds and York, which then provide onward rail connections across the country including to London in just over two hours. Leeds Bradford International Airport is about half an hour's drive.

Families in Wetherby and the surrounding area are very well served by local state primary schools and secondary schools including Wetherby High School and Boston Spa School. With regard to private schools, many children travel to The Grammar School at Leeds, Ashville College in Harrogate and Harrogate Ladies' College.

Wetherby is a lovely place to live, with a fantastic range of properties to suit all budgets and tastes and, above all, it has a wonderful community spirit.

What we love about Wetherby

Stockeld Park

'Where magic is made and adventures begin'. That's the motto of Stockeld Park and it certainly lives up to it. Located just a short distance from Wetherby, it's a super place to visit. In particular, we love the Christmas Adventure, with its outdoor ice skating rink, Enchanted Forest and Nordic Trail, it is a treat for children (of all ages)!

Farmers' Market

Wetherby Farmers’ market is held in the Market Place around the Town Hall on the second Saturday of every month (November it is on the third Sunday) from 9am to 1pm. The market has around 20 stalls. The market is focused on food, offering a wide variety of meat, fish and vegetables as well as more exotic items and a range of baking and ‘cook at home’ food.

Hetchell Wood Nature Reserve

Covering nearly 12hectares, Hetchell Wood Nature Reserve provides a tranquil retreat just a short distance from Wetherby. It is a popular place to walk and see the different seasons unfold.
