Guiseley & Rawdon Area Guide

Guiseley Branch Manager William Baxter tells us what these popular Leeds towns have to offer its residents

The town of Guiseley and adjoining village of Rawdon are popular residential locations in north west Leeds. Both are conveniently located around the A65 which provides a direct route into Leeds and also to Ilkley, Skipton and the Dales.

There is a good range of properties in both areas, including quaint stone-built weavers' cottages, large Victorian villas, stylish 1930s semis and detached houses at Tranmere Park, modern family homes and sleek city-style apartments.

The area offers an excellent array of amenities including a good selection of shops (independent retailers and national chains), two large-scale retail parks, a Morrisons supermarket, a leisure centre with swimming pool, a theatre and numerous bars and restaurants. In addition, the bright lights of Leeds are easily reached by car and public transport. For those who enjoy outdoor pursuits, there are excellent walks through countryside, woodland and canal towpaths as well as easy access to Baildon and Ilkley Moor.

Transport links are first class making Rawdon and Guiseley popular with commuters. Bradford and Leeds are can both be reached in around 30 minutes by car and there are regular direct trains to both cities from Guiseley station and nearby Apperley Bridge. Leeds Bradford International Airport is less than ten minutes drive.

There is a good range of primary schools for families in Guiseley and Rawdon. At secondary level Guiseley School, Benton Park School in Rawdon and St Mary's Catholic Comprehensive School in Menston are popular choices. For parents seeking private education provision, Bradford Grammar School is a popular choice as it is well served by the direct train service from Guiseley to the school’s nearby station at Frizinghall. Woodhouse Grove School is less than ten minutes by car and via train to Apperley Bridge station. There is also a school bus service from Guiseley and Rawdon to the Grammar School at Leeds.

We believe that the Guiseley and Rawdon area provides a super work/life balance. They have all the urban amenities and conveniences that modern life demands combined with fresh air, sweeping upland vistas and proximity to countryside, which most people agree is so important to a quality lifestyle.

Leeds Sailing and Activity Centre

This part of Yorkshire may be one of the most land-locked areas in the country but that doesn't mean we can't get out sailing. At Yeadon Tarn, the Leeds Sailing and Activity Centre provides a range of courses catering for most ages and abilities. The centre is operated by Leeds City Council and is a Royal Yachting Association Training centre for dinghy sailing. For those eager to get out on the water, it's a great place to learn the ropes, whilst for landlubbers there is also a range of caving, mountain-biking and rock climbing courses. Yeadon Tarn is a fantastic amenity, which is well used by people in this area.
