Dacre's Guide to Settle

Ideally situated between the scenic Yorkshire Dales and the Forest of Bowland, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Settle District and its surrounding delightful villages offer an enviable lifestyle in a wonderful environment.

The town of Settle has a wide array of interesting shops and other local amenities. Outdoor pursuits are a large feature of Settle life and for those who enjoy art and culture, there is always something going on here including exhibitions, talks, literature festivals, musical concerts and theatre events. You'll never be short of things to do in Settle.

The town offers easy access via the nearby A65 to the business centres of Leeds and Bradford as well as west to Kendal, the Lake District, the M6 and the national motorway network. From Settle station (home of the famous Settle-Carlisle Railway), you can be in Skipton in around 20 minutes, Leeds in just over an hour and Manchester in about 90 minutes, making Settle eminently commutable.

There are several good state schools serving Settle, including Giggleswick Primary School, Settle Church of England Primary School and Settle College. In the independent sector, Giggleswick School is considered one of the leading public schools in the north of England.

Above all, Settle is a friendly place. There's always something going on in the town centre and the views are amazing!

What we love about Settle

Settle Golf Club

According to Peter Alliss, Settle Golf Club has 'one of the hardest opening holes in Yorkshire'. But don't let that put you off! It is a friendly club with a warm welcome for new members and visitors and it must surely be one of the most scenic golf courses in the whole of the UK. The nine holes offer hazards galore with streams, trees and dry stone walls keeping even experienced golfers on their toes.

 The Courtyard

Just outside the town by the side of the A65, the Courtyard is an attractive conversion of an old farmstead that now houses a delightful cafe/restaurant, art gallery, interior design and textile shops, as well as high-class food and wine outlets. It has quickly become a popular place for Settle-folk to unwind and enjoy good food and drink served in stylish surroundings.

 The Great Outdoors

Wonderful scenery, upland walks, Malham Cove, Ingleton Falls and numerous other rivers and streams, they're all on your doorstep in Settle. The area attracts outdoor enthusiasts from all over the UK, making it one of the most vibrant and eclectic small towns in Yorkshire. And for those who are fortunate enough to live in Settle and round about, the scenery is yours to enjoy 24/7. You will never tire of the views, the open spaces and the sense of freedom.
