Bramhope Area Guide

Bramhope is a lovely rural village, which is surrounded by beautiful countryside and woodland and yet is only nine miles from Leeds, making it one of the most popular residential locations in the North Leeds area.

The roots of the village are plain to see in the historic buildings which are dotted around including the superb Grade 1 listed, 17th Century Puritan Chapel and other buildings dating back to the 17th and 18th Centuries such as the Old Schoolhouse, the Smithy and Weaver's Cottage. From a small farming settlement in Saxon times, the village has grown to the leafy location we see today which features some of North Leeds' finest residential properties.

Recreational facilities include a bowling green, tennis courts, a cricket club and rugby club too.  The Old Village Well is a fabulous 17th Century pub which is very popular with locals and visitors. There are also numerous cultural and leisure facilities within a short drive including an excellent sports and health club and a fine selection of golf courses. These local amenities are further enhanced by the shopping and leisure opportunities available in nearby Otley and the spa towns of Ilkley and Harrogate, plus, of course, everything that Leeds has to offer.

Bramhope is particularly well placed for travel to the main business and leisure centres of West and North Yorkshire and then onwards via the motorway and rail networks. Travelling into Leeds city centre from Bramhope is easy by car (around 20 minutes) or the same journey by bus or bike takes around 40 minutes. Harrogate and Ilkley (gateways to the Yorkshire Dales) are a similar distance, as is Bradford. Leeds Bradford International Airport can be reached in less than ten minutes by car.

Families in Bramhope are well served by local schools. Ofsted rated Bramhope Primary School as an 'outstanding' school in its 2012 report. At secondary level, there is a good range of schools within easy travelling distance in both the state and independent sectors.

Bramhope has always been a popular destination - close enough to Leeds to be convenient for work and shopping etc. but with the countryside air and stunning views to refresh you after a day in the city.

What we love about Bramhope

The Fox and Hounds

The Fox and Hounds is a well-known pub in the village centre dating back to the early 18th Century. With a good range of cask ales and tasty dishes, it also offers a separate area, The Loft, serving morning coffee, lunches and a brasserie in the evening. Open fires in the winter and outdoor space with a bowling green, make this a popular village amenity all year round.

Bramhope Indoor Farmers Market

On the second Saturday of the month, the local village hall, the Robert Craven Memorial Hall, hosts a farmers' market offering a wide array of goodies by local food producers, artisans and  designer/makers.
