LAST CALL FOR SEALED BIDS FOR HAWORTH CRICKET GROUND

Leading Yorkshire estate agent, Dacre, Son & Hartley is marketing the former home of Haworth West End Cricket Club, for informal tender with a guide prize of £15,000. Sealed bids must be made by 12 noon tomorrow and the estate agent has already received more than 30.

The former cricket ground and pavilion extends to 1.65 acres and is set in the Penistone Country Park, above the village of Haworth, West Yorkshire. 
Dacre, Son & Hartley’s area director, Ian Bradbury: “Located a few miles from Top Withens, the ruined farmhouse that is believed to be the inspiration for Wuthering Heights, this is a fabulous site with outstanding views across Worth Valley. 

“We have been inundated with calls from interested parties since we launched the site. Some people want it for grazing land, others have equestrian interests and we have also had people wanting to establish an allotment, doggy day-care centre and camping site. There are so many potential uses for this site, but it’s important to note there is no planning potential for property development.

“Having played for the club myself, I understand that some people are sad to see the demise of Haworth West End, but it simply struggled for players and couldn’t retain the juniors, so the two teams became one team and then eventually folded. The ground was offered to local clubs but without someone to maintain the ground and the responsibilities that came with it, there wasn’t any interest.” 

Proceeds from the sale are expected to go to charitable causes and local community groups.
