We are supporting a campaign to raise money to pay for a life-changing operation that will enable a four-year-old Ilkley boy called Gabriel to walk, jump and run.
The ‘Go Gabriel Go’ campaign has already raised more than £33,000 of its £40,000 target for the youngster, who was born 10 weeks early along with his triplet brothers, Louis and Max. Dacres is contributing to the final push by donating £75 for every new property that its Burley in Wharfedale office puts up for sale over an eight-week period. In addition, Salem United Reformed Church will be hosting its second Party in the Park between 2pm and 5pm on 17th June 2018 in aid of the campaign.
After his birth, Gabriel faced a particularly tough fight which left him with autism and spastic diplegia cerebral palsy. The cerebral palsy is painful and causes his leg muscles to stiffen, which means he can’t put his feet flat on the ground and can only walk very short distances on tip-toes.
He has now been selected for an operation, known as Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR), at Leeds General Infirmary. Surgeons plan to cut 70% of the nerves in Gabriel’s spinal cord, which will ease the stiffness in his legs and it’s hoped that with physiotherapy he should then be able to run and jump. Although the NHS performs SDR treatment, the organisation doesn’t currently fund it.
Paul Wilson, a director at Dacres says: “It’s impossible not to feel moved by Gabriel’s story and the organisers of Go Gabriel Go have done a fantastic job to now be within £7,000 of their £40,000 target. Hopefully we can help them reach their goal, and anyone putting their property on the market with us before the end of the month, will also be able to play their part.”
