TARN MOOR ESTATE WINS CEMETERY OF THE YEAR
A North Yorkshire Estate managed by Dacre Son & Hartley has been recognised for its outstanding cemetery at this year’s Cemetery of the Year awards.
The memorial woodland cemetery, which is within the Tarn Moor Estate near Skipton, was voted winner in the natural burial ground category by the Memorial Awareness Board, having achieved national runner up at last year’s awards.
The site was assessed on a range of criteria including maintenance, design, facilities, freedom of memorial choice and involvement with the local communities. The Trustees, maintenance team and site manager were all praised for their commitment and dedication to the estate.
Paul Elgar, who is part of the agricultural department at Dacre Son & Hartley and manages the Estate says: “The non secular burial ground is a beautiful mix of traditional meadowland, high woodland and open grazed land where the memorial stones are located. The site spans over 10 acres of natural habitat and provides for both people and pets.”
The memorial woodland cemetery forms part of a small agricultural Estate which also includes a country Inn, farmland, woodland and an apiary for honey bees. Paul acts as an administrator and manager for all land, property and administrative matters.
Paul says: “The burial ground really is a very special place providing a beautiful area for relatives and friends to visit. All of the trustees are delighted with this award win as it reinforces what a truly unique environment has been created on the outskirts of Skipton.”
